Kaleidoscope: Review

Kaleidoscope: Review

Last month I attended the northern blogging conference, Blog On. I knew of many of the brands attending and so had an idea of who I would speak to. However once I got there time seemed to run away with me. One brand, however, that I had not particularly thought about approaching was Kaleidoscope.

Kaleidoscope are a leading women’s catalogue for ladies fashion, or so a quick google search reveals. When I talked to them, though, I learnt so much more. Whilst their current market is the over 40’s they actually have a wide range of clothing that suits many age ranges and are hoping to break the younger market. They also supply a wide range of home and lifestyle products and had a few of these out on display. I know many a blogger was yearning for the Jelly Bean Rug that was on display.

My favourite of the Kaleidoscope display

I was extremely impressed when I spoke to several of the team at their stand. They were friendly, knowledgeable and really wanted to know more about how they could work with bloggers themselves and find ways to build strong relationships.

We were all given a voucher in our Blog On goody bags and immediately I knew one item I wanted to purchase – this beautiful Kingfisher Tunic which I spotted on their rails and one of the lovely ladies was modelling! When I came to order, however, I was a little concerned as the sizes only go down to a size ten. I’m not quite sure why this is, just because you are over 40 doesn’t mean you might not be a size eight!

When the tunic came, I loved it. It is made of polyester but has a really soft, brushed feel to the fabric. It is lightweight and therefore suitable for those summer days and it can be worn on its own as a dress or with leggings on cooler days.

I decided it would be perfect for my birthday day which was celebrated on a barge. It was a suitable length in case the wind took over and was just the right casual but yet still dressy feel. We lucked out with the weather and it was a lovely sunny day and the fabric did me proud – no unsightly damp patches. The pockets in the front added a modern element and the elastic waistline meant I could sit the wait where most suited me for the right length.

The second item I plumped for was this bright and fun Together Scenic Print Top. This fabric could be purchased in a few different styles and I did love the strapless dress, however as I am only 4ft10 I knew it would be far too long. As it was in a size ten, the top ended up more as a dress length on me. Maybe Kaleidoscope could expand into a petite section in the future?

As I said I did end up wearing this top as a dress, however like the Kingfisher Tunic, I could also wear it with leggings or tights should I want to change it up a little.

I wore this top at a family celebration. The day was lovely and sunny and the dress code was casual, so it fit in nicely. I also have a lovely holiday to Fuerteventura planned for later in the year and I thought the bright seaside design would be lovely abroad.

Overall I am really pleased with Kaleidoscope. The clothing items are a great quality and they have some surprisingly youthful and bold prints that really capture my eye. I do wish their range covered the more petite of us and their prices can be on the higher side, but everyone I’ve talked to them about has been impressed with the catalogue.

Next time I’ll be hitting the home section!
